The Strategic Advisory Board goal is to generate financial support from philanthropists and other sources for the planned Victorian Heart Hospital. These facilities will ensure not only enhanced capacity for clinical services, but will also provide expanded opportunities for educating our future healthcare providers, lead translational research, and provide the ability to lead cardiac policy development into the next decades.
Mr Peter Maloney (Chair)
Peter Maloney has broad commercial, finance and management experience. In a long career with WMC Resources, he held positions of treasurer, executive, executive vice president, and manager commercial and marketing. He has also been executive general manager at Santos and chief financial officer at FH Faulding. Peter held the position of chair, Southern Health Board for three years. He has been chairman or a director of several ASX listed companies, and more recently, chairman of the Lion Selection Group.
Mr Daryl Browning
Daryl Browning is the chief executive officer of ISPT and has over 28 years’ experience in the property investment and management sector, including 10 years in direct financial services. Daryl is the Chair of the Victorian Advisory Board of the Property Industry Foundation, director of Chain Reaction Foundation and a current division councillor and past divisional president of the Property Council of Australia (Victoria).
Dr Sally Cockburn
Sally Cockburn, known in the media as Dr Feelgood, is one of Australia’s leading health communicators. Sally is a general practitioner, public speaker and writer and hosts her own radio show on 3AW each week. Sally also has a strong commitment to medical education and has taught at both Monash University and Melbourne University. Sally has been the recipient of a number of awards in health journalism.
Professor Richard Harper
Professor Richard (Rick) Harper is the Emeritus Director of Cardiology, Monash Medical Centre and Adjunct Professor of Medicine, Monash University and Interim Director of MonashHeart. For a number of years, Rick held a consultative appointment with the Department of Health, Victorian Government. He was the Director of Cardiology at the Queen Victoria Hospital, and, on the establishment of Monash Medical Centre, Clayton in 1986 Rick became the Director of Cardiology, a position he held for 20 years. In late 2016, on the resignation of Professor Ian Meredith, Rick was successful in obtaining the role of Interim Director of MonashHeart.
Mr John Hatton
John Hatton is a former international executive with experience in the finance, risk management and human resource sectors having worked with an international corporation in Melbourne and New York. John has a special interest in expanding and improving cardiac health for Victorians, including seeking international backing for the Victorian Heart Hospital project.
Mr Michael Heffernan
Michael Heffernan has over 30 years’ experience in the finance and securities industry and is currently a senior client advisor and economist with leading sharebroker Phillip Capital having been chief economist/lawyer with the Australian Stock Exchange for 13 years and an economist with Commonwealth Department of Employment and Industrial Relations for 11 years. In 2012, Michael was elected a Bayside city councillor and in 2013 Michael was named Australian stock picker of the year.
Mr John Pizzey
John Pizzey was appointed as chairman of Alumina Limited in 2011 and is a director of Orora Ltd and Air Liquide (Australia) Ltd. He was chairman of Iluka Resources Ltd, and a director of Amcor Limited and St Vincent’s Institute of Medical Research and a former director and chairman of the London Metal Exchange. John brings extensive knowledge gained over 44 years in the international resources industry and participation in international joint ventures when he was group president of the global Alcoa Primary Products Group and chairman of Alcoa of Australia Ltd.
Mr John Sheldon
John Sheldon’s experience covers mining, energy, natural resources, manufacturing, professional services, tourism and leisure sectors as both chief executive and chief operating officer, in Australia, Europe and Asia Pacific. With more than 35 years in the professional services market, John has worked at both strategic and operational levels with boards and senior executives as the company transformed their operations in line with changing and evolving market conditions.
Mr Greg Sheridan
Greg Sheridan is an Australian foreign affairs journalist and commentator. He has been the foreign editor of The Australian newspaper since 1992. Greg specialises in Asian politics and has written five books on this topic. He is a distinguished Fellow of the Australia India Institute (University of Melbourne).
