Dr Robert Gooley is the head of interventional services and consults at MonashHeart Dandenong. He graduated from Monash University with first honours in 2004 and completed his physician training at Monash Health. He completed advanced training in cardiology at MonashHeart and has completed interventional fellowship and PhD. Dr Wally Ahmar specialises in interventional and general cardiology. He undertook advanced cardiology training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. His interventional training was conducted at MonashHeart Monash Health with particular emphasis on acute and chronic percutaneous coronary intervention procedures and intravascular ultrasound. Dr Benjamin Dundon – MBBS, PhD, FRACP, Cardiologist

Dr Benjamin Dundon undertook his undergraduate degree at the University of Adelaide, followed by basic physician’s training and advanced cardiology training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Since 2006, Ben has practiced as a Consultant Cardiologist. In 2009 Ben completed a three year PhD evaluating ‘Alternations in Cardiovascular Structure and Function in End-Stage Renal Failure’, whilst he also undertook a clinical fellowship in Cardiac MRI. Associate Professor Brian Ko graduated with Honours at the University of New South Wales in 2000 and completed his cardiology training at Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney in 2008. Brian undertook further specialist training for five years as the interventional fellow / PhD fellow at MonashHeart, Monash Medical Centre and Monash University. He was awarded his PhD in 2013 for his thesis titled “CT stress myocardial perfusion imaging in stable coronary artery disease”. Ms Maree Lawrence – Clinical Nurse Coordinator, Structural Heart Disease Program, MonashHeart

Ms Maree Lawrence is a long standing member of MonashHeart, having commenced in 1998 as a cardiac catheterisation laboratory nurse. During this time she undertook post-graduate education in critical care nursing as well as gaining extensive experience in roles including the clinical applications manager and as research coordinator. She became the structural heart disease clinical coordinator in June 2014. The structural heart program encompasses cases such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement, percutaneous mitral valve repair, percutaneous transluminal septal myocardial ablation, atrial septal and patent foramen ovale closures. Her role incorporates all aspects of pre and post procedural patient management, case scheduling, facilitating weekly ‘heart team’ meetings and providing ongoing patient education and support.

Dr Michael Leung – MBBS(Hons), PhD, FRACP, Cardiologist

Dr Michael Leung graduated from Monash University with honours in 1995, and has subsequently completed an impressive array of traineeships in clinical cardiology and cardiology research. Michael undertook further specialist training for five years as the interventional fellow/PhD fellow at Monash Medical Centre Clayton, before relocating to South Australia for two years to complete a post doctoral cardiology fellowship in cardiac CT (level 2) and MRI (level 2) with Professor Stephen Worthley at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. View full profile

Tony is an academic interventional cardiologist who completed his medical degree at the University of Melbourne. Subsequent basic training and cardiology training was at Royal Melbourne Hospital. In 2000 he was awarded the Bryan Hudson medal for the highest nationwide score in the Royal Australasian College of Physicians examinations. Ms Kara Zantuck Nurse Unit Manager Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories & Cardiac CT

Kara Zantuck began her career in cardiothoracic nursing 11 years ago before gaining further nursing experience overseas. Her passion for cardiac nursing lead her to the cath lab in 2006, where she found her niche. Kara’s advanced skills in procedural cardiology have seen her involved in many MonashHeart first’s including TAVR, Watchman and Mitralclip procedures, and live case transmissions. With post-graduate qualifications in health management and experience as both cardiac cath lab ANUM and cardiac liaison coordinator, Kara now leads her team as nurse unit manager of the MonashHeart cardiac cath lab and cardiac CT service.
