Dr Sam Mirzaee is a consultant cardiologist and PhD research fellow at MonashHeart. Sam completed basic physician training at Eastern Health, prior to advancing his interest in medical research by undertaking a research fellow position at Barwon Health with a concurrent postgraduate Masters at Monash University in 2012. He completed his advanced training in cardiology at The Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane with placements at Townsville Hospital, and subsequently joined MonashHeart in 2016. Sam has participated in a number of international multi-centre clinical trials and presented his work in several international and national meetings.
Sam has a particular interest in the assessment of complex lipid disorders associated with premature coronary artery disease. He has introduced a unique model of care for the management of complex lipid disorders; integrating tertiary and primary care. He leads MonashHeart’s multidisciplinary advanced lipid disorder clinic based at MonashHeart Dandenong.
His current PhD project is to determine the application of several novel modalities including index of microvascular resistance, cardiac MRI and coronary flow reserve, to depict the underlying mechanism of abnormal left ventricular contractile reserve to exercise.
