Heart Art
Our unique art collection is themed around the heart, both in its symbolic and anatomical form. This project was initiated in 2005 under the directorship of Professor Ian Meredith and has since grown with the acquisition of over 25 prints, paintings and multimedia works with further acquisitions planned in the future.
The collection is diverse, with some artworks approaching the heart theme from a decorative perspective where the heart shape is a symbol – the love heart, while other works have a more literal approach and use the anatomical heart as a starting point using a variety of techniques and mediums.
Artworks have been sourced from predominantly Melbourne-based emerging artists.
The MonashHeart Art Collection, sits within the larger Southern Health Art Collection and is managed by a professional art curator, Rebecca Lovitt. It is displayed throughout MonashHeart to improve the experience for patients, visitors and staff alike, acting as an aesthetically pleasing diversion and source of contemplation.
