Professor Ian Meredith

Professor Ian Meredith - Director of MonashHeart

Professor Ian Meredith has over 20 years experience as an interventional cardiologist.  He has performed more than 10,000 invasive cardiac and coronary procedures.  He is author or co-author of more than 200 published papers and has been principle investigator of over 30 major international multicentre, randomised trials including world first-in-man trials of new drug-eluting stents.  Ian is the Medical Vice President of the Heart Foundation, Victoria, a CSANZ board member and serves on several advisory boards and government committees.

Ms Amy Dorat 

Ms Amy Dorat - Clinical Nurse Educator, Cardiac Care Unit, Jessie McPherson Private Hospital

Early experience in cardiothoracic nursing lead to Ms Amy Dorrat’s interest in cardiac nursing. Amy subsequently completed post graduate qualifications in critical care and now is the clinical nurse educator on the 26-bed Jessie McPherson cardiac care unit, leading nursing education on this combined cardiology and cardiothoracic unit.

Ms Yasmine Ivankovic - Clinical Nurse Educator, Cardiac Care Unit, Clayton

After many years of cardiac nursing on the cardiac care unit, Clayton, Ms Yasmine Ivankovic now has the position of clinical nurse educator for this 21-bed and 60 EFT unit. Yasmine's passion is shaping new models of learning for cardiac care nursing and leading knowledge development in the cardiac field of healthcare.

Ms Rose Lillo - Clinical Nurse Educator, MonashHeart Cardiac Care Unit, Dandenong Hospital

Ms Rose Lillo has many years of experience in cardiac care nursing at Southern Health. With a passion for nurse education, her role as Dandenong cardiac care clinical nurse educator enables her to teach nurses the complexities of acute cardiac care nursing.
Ms Catherine Mylrea

Ms Catherine Mylrea - Echocardiography Educator

Ms Catherine Mylrea has a passion and skill for echocardiography education and is the echocardiography educator for MonashHeart’s team of songraphers and medical staff. With over 30 years experience in all facets of cardiac technology, she is a senior and well respected sonographer.
Ms Penny Woodward

Ms Penny Woodward - Clinical Nurse Educator, 32 South, Monash Medical Centre, Clayton

With qualifications in intensive care nursing and extensive experience in cardiothoracic nursing Ms Penny Woodward now specialises in nurse education on 32 South, the 24-bed combined cardiology and cardiothoracic unit. With a diversity of teaching challenges including TSP and critical care students, GNP’s and unit staff, Penny liaises closely with her cardiac educator colleagues to provide the best of education.

Mr Ying Chan - Business Manager

Mr Ying Chan has a Bachelor in Accounting from the South Australian Institute of Technology and has worked extensively across all areas of Southern Health, including acute services, primary and aged care, more recently joining the MonashHeart team as the Business Manager.
Ms Anne Mennen

Ms Anne Mennen - Operations Manager

While Ms Anne Mennen is currently the operations manager for MonashHeart, her background is that of cardiac care and cardiothoracic nursing. With post graduate qualifications in cardiac care, critical care and business management, she continues to enjoy the challenges of improving and expanding MonashHeart services across Southern Health.

Dr Jeff Alison

Dr Jeff Alison - Head of Cardiac Rhythm Management Services

Dr Jeff Alison completed his electrophysiology training at the University of Health Sciences Centre, Vancouver, Canada. Jeff has been the Head of Electrophysiology, Monash Medical Centre, Clayton since 1996 and since 2007 has been the Head of Cardiac Rhythm Management Services, MonashHeart. Jeff also holds an honorary electrophysiologist appointment with the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne.
 Dr Paul Antonis

Dr Paul Antonis - Head of Acute Cardiac Services

Dr Paul Antonis, a Monash University graduate, practices as an interventional and CT cardiologist and is the Head of Acute Cardiac Services, MonashHeart. Paul has trained in cardiac CT, achieving level 3 accreditation at MonashHeart and is active in a number of interventional clinical trials.

Professor James Cameron - Director of Research & Education

Professor James Cameron’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Engineering, Masters of Engineering Science, Bachelor of Medicine and Doctor of Medicine. He is the Director of Monash Cardiovascular Research Centre, Director of Research and Education, MonashHeart, Professor of Electrical Engineering, Latrobe University and (honorary) Professor of Medicine, Monash University.

 Associate Professor Sarah Hope

Associate Professor Sarah Hope - Head of Paediatric Cardiology Services

Associate Professor Sarah Hope graduated from the University of Edinburgh and trained in paediatric cardiology both in the UK and in Australia. She achieved level 3 cardiac CT training at MonashHeart where she has extensive experience in cardiac CT for congenital heart disease. Sarah is Head of Paediatric Cardiology Services, MonashHeart, and practices as a paediatric cardiologist and CT cardiologist.
Dr Yuvaraj Malaiapan

Dr Yuvaraj Malaiapan - Head of Interventional Services

Dr Yuvaraj Malaiapan completed his subspecialty training in cardiology at Penang Hospital, Malaysia, subsequently undertaking interventional training at Monash Medical Centre, Clayton. He was appointed as Director of the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories and Interventional Cardiology, MonashHeart in 2005. In 2007, Yuvaraj became the Head of Interventional Services, MonashHeart.
Dr Phil Mottram

Dr Philip Mottram - Head of Non Invasive Imaging Services

Dr Phil Mottram is a clinical cardiologist and non invasive imaging specialist with expertise in all forms of echocardiography as well as cardiac CT. Phil is the Head of Non invasive Imaging Services, MonashHeart, one of the busiest echo services in Victoria, performing over 12,000 echoes per year.
 Dr Sujith Seneviratne

Associate Professor Sujith Seneviratne - Co-Head 320-slice Cardiac CT Services

Associate Professor Sujith Seneviratne, a graduate from University of Melbourne, pursued his interest in cardiac CT by completing a research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston in 2006-2007, achieving level 3 training. Sene is considered a leader in cardiac CT in Australia and is the Co-Head of the luminary site 320-slice Cardiac CT facility at MonashHeart where he also practices as an interventional cardiologist.

Ms Kirsten Garner

Ms Kirsten Garner - Cardiac Liaison Coordinator

With an extensive background and post graduate qualifications in cardiothoracic and intensive care nursing, Ms Kirsten Garner is well credentialed to undertake the role of cardiac liaison coordinator for both cardiothoracics and cardiology patients across Southern Health. This challenging role involves care coordination across the whole cardiac continuum of care including the coordination of all inpatients and outpatients for cardiac surgery and cardiac catheterisation laboratory procedures.
Ms Helen Goldsmith

Ms Helen Goldsmith - Nurse Unit Manager, 32 South, Monash Medical Centre, Clayton

A solid background in intensive care nursing lead Ms Helen Goldsmith to undertake the role of nurse unit manager of 32 South, the combined cardiology and cardiothoracic unit at Monash Medical Centre. Completing post graduate qualifications in management has assisted her in leading the large team of cardiac nurses on this 24-bed unit.

Ms Sarah Jager - Nurse Unit Manager, 31 North, Jessie McPherson Private Hospital, Clayton

Ms Sarah Jager has been part of the Jessie McPherson Private Hospital cardiac care unit for seven years, completing a critical care course and has extensive experience working in various Melbourne private hospital critical care units. She now holds the position of Nurse Unit Manager in the Jessie McPherson Private Hospital cardiac care unit, a 26 bed unit with a strong cardiac focus on cardiology and cardiothoracic patient care.
 Mr John Koutsoubos

Mr John Koutsoubos - Nurse Unit Manager, Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories & Cardiac CT

With a background in engineering, Mr John Koutsoubos changed his career to nursing, finding his niche in cardiac catheterisation laboratory nursing. John is the nurse unit manager of the three cardiac catheterisation laboratories at MonashHeart Clayton and the 320-slice cardiac CT service. John is a sought-after speaker at national and international cardiology conferences and is an active member of a number of organising committees.

Ms Kerrie Dowling

Ms Kerrie Aldridge - Nurse Unit Manager, Cardiac Care Unit, Monash Medical Centre, Clayton

After training and experience at Dandenong Hospital in intensive and cardiac care nursing, Ms Kerrie Aldridge completed a Graduate Diploma in Critical Care Nursing. Now the nurse unit manager of the 21-bed Clayton cardiac care unit, Kerrie leads this unit which manages a very high percentage of STEMI cases, well above the state and national average.
 Ms Julie Plunkett

Ms Julie Plunkett - Manager, Monash Cardiovascular Research Centre

Prior to her current position, Ms Julie Plunkett had a number of years experience working in the cardiology field both as a cardiac catheterisation laboratory nurse and also in the medical device industry. She has witnessed the evolution of cardiac catheterisation laboratory interventions for coronary and cardiac structural disease over time. For the last decade Julie has managed the Monash Cardiovascular Research Centre, leading its world class research.
 Ms Chris Rasmussen

Ms Chris Rasmussen - Nurse Unit Manager, Cardiac Care Unit, Dandenong Hospital

Ms Chris Rasmussen has lead the cardiac care nursing team at Dandenong Hospital for a number of years, a team that is very experienced in all disciplines of acute cardiac care nursing. Chris is active on a number of Southern Health committees including the resuscitation committee and clinical review committee.

 Mr Anthony Wald

Mr Anthony Wald - Chief Cardiac Technologist

Mr Anthony Wald qualified as a cardiac technologist in South Africa, subsequently working in Europe and Australia. With a post graduate qualification in management, Anthony leads the large cardiac technologist team providing MonashHeart services across three sites.
