Target 10 strategy to reduce angioplasty waits
Early December 2010, MonashHeart commenced its Target 10 Strategy in an effort to reduce the wait time and waiting list for elective angioplasty. “The demand on public cardiac beds by emergency heart patients over the past few months has been intense” said Professor Ian Meredith, Director of MonashHeart, “so we are now very keen to reduce the angioplasty waiting list with a targeted strategy of performing 10 elective angioplasty cases each week”. By week two the target ten strategy had been extremely successful with 20 cases performed, with the view to continue the strategy at a reduced rate over the Christmas/New Year holiday period, before recommencing 10 cases per week in mid January 2011.
