Each cardiac area offers robust, proactive education and training programs such as
- Industry supported education and training
- In-service education programs for nursing staff
- Work station skill development and competency assessment (eg. intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) and advanced life support (ALS)
- Study leave to attend conferences and forums
- Graduate nurse program rotations
- Transition to specialty practice program – cardiac stream
- Graduate certificate/diploma in critical care (via Deakin University)
- Unit specific clinical nurse educator
As MonashHeart has a firm commitment to research there are many opportunities for nursing research, with a number of our nursing team presenting at both national and international cardiology conferences and nursing forums including the Transcathetter Therapeutics Conference (Washington) and annual Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ) and Australia & New Zealand Endovascular Therapies (ANZET) meetings each year. Moreover, live cases performed in the cardiac catheterisation laboratories and cared for pre, intra and post procedure by our nursing teams, are transmitted via satellite to the most prestigious of conferences in Europe, America and Asia each year.
