Fellowships and higher degrees

Specialty clinical fellowships

Specialty clinical fellowship positions are offered each year in wonderfully diverse sub-specialty areas and are particularly suitable for those seeking an academic and research career in cardiology.

Higher Degrees by Research

Monash Cardiovascular Research Centre (MCRC) also offers higher degree opportunities through research. These are active PhD and MD programs which are ongoing, organised through Monash University and are supported by the MCRC and MonashHeart teams.

Dr Adam Hutchison
Currently undertaking a combined PhD/Interventional fellowship investigating systems of care in acute coronary syndrome including pre-hospital ECG, timed treatment and outcomes in NSTEMI and outcomes in non coronary causes of troponin elevation.
Dr Brian Ko
Currently undertaking a combined PhD/Interventional fellowship, evaluating the diagnostic accuracy of CT myocardial perfusion imaging (CTP) against invasive reference standards, the utility of CT coronary angiography (CTA) / CTP as a screening modality, the implemental value of CTP over CTA, and to validate various analytical methods in the interpretation of myocardial perfusion.

Dr Siobhan Lockwood

Undergraduate Teaching

MCRC convenes the cardiovascular component of the Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences course. MCRC provides the core cardiovascular teaching in the final year Bachelor of Biomedical Science (BBiomedSc) degree course. In addition to this nine lecture component, MCRC laboratories host three student groups for laboratory work.

MonashHeart and MCRC provide undergraduate medical student teaching and clinical instruction in cardiology. MCRC continues its program of research training for all junior medical staff. All registrars participate in abstract submission to the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand Scientific Session.
